We watched a lot of films this semester, and while they were definitely all food films, I have to say I only really enjoyed about a quarter of them. Not that they were bad films by any means, just not my taste (haha), so to speak. A lot of the films were actually really sexual, and while I am an adult and can handle that sorta stuff, I would be lying if I said I wasn't uncomfortable during many of them (looking at you Antonia's Line), and that made it challenging for me to watch and majorly reduced my enjoyment of many of the films. Some of them were honestly straight-up boring, like Soylent Green, what the heck was that even? But enough negativity, let's talk about some that I liked.

My favorite one for sure has to be Mostly Martha, as it was by far the most interesting and compelling one to me. I loved the characters and the relationships developed between Mario, Martha, and Lina over the course of the film. The film was so beautiful and genuine I loved it and definitely want to watch it again.

Another great one was What's Cooking, which I was surprised to see wasn't one of the voting options for the best film of the class. Through excellent use of parallel editing, we get to see the differences in how each family prepares Thanksgiving dinner as well as how they celebrate it and the catastrophe that follows with each family. The food they prepare typically has turkey and potatoes, the thanksgiving standard. However, each family makes it their way to fit in line with their racial and cultural heritage. I really enjoyed the acting in this film and the flipping back and forth between the families, seeing the similarities and differences. I'd come back to this one as well. This class definitely wasn't what I was expecting, and I'm not sure if I would've still taken it knowing everything I know now. But I think it was probably good to widen my range of movies, and there were some really good ones I'll remember in the future.
