Towards the end of Big Night, Primo and Secondo have sunk all their money into the meal, but although the food is delicious and a massive success, the night turns out to be a huge disappointment. Many harsh words were said. The next morning, the brothers are uncertain of their future. The next scene is 5 minutes and features zero dialogue. It starts with Secondo coming into the kitchen to prepare an omelet for breakfast. This goes on for a while in one shot, just Secondo cracking and scrambling the eggs, pouring them into the pan. Meanwhile, Primo enters the room. This tension between them, what will they say to each other after last night's events? After breakfast is made, the brothers eat in silence, side by side, and acknowledge each other through hand gestures. This is a great example of visual storytelling. The scene demonstrates that a movie doesn’t need tons of action. As long as we care about the characters and what is going on in the story, even a five-minute slice-of-life can make for a compelling scene.
